About the role
The Director of Brand & Communications leads the visual identity, creative direction, and public-facing communications of The Open Economics Project.
OEP communicates with students, educators, institutional partners, volunteers, and supporters across diverse educational and geographic contexts.
Maintaining credibility requires a recognizable visual identity, consistent institutional messaging, and communications that reflect the seriousness of the organization's educational mission.
The Director will oversee how OEP presents its work, ensuring that communications are visually coherent, professionally written, and appropriate for their intended audiences.
The role combines creative strategy with practical design and communications responsibilities.

Who we’re looking for
Applicants should possess strong visual communication skills, excellent writing ability, and a clear understanding of brand consistency.
Experience with Figma, Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, or comparable design software is valuable.
Candidates should be able to demonstrate completed work through a portfolio, campaign samples, publication designs, or other relevant examples.
Experience managing a brand or communications calendar is preferred, but demonstrated creative quality and reliability are more important than formal titles.
First 90 Days
The Director should aim to:
- Conduct a visual and communications audit of OEP's public channels.
- Produce a concise institutional brand guide.
- Establish reusable templates for common communication needs.
- Develop a realistic communications calendar.
- Lead the creative execution of one approved organizational campaign.
Working together
The Director will coordinate with the Chief Development Officer, events leadership, and relevant publication teams.
The position requires both strategic judgment and willingness to contribute hands-on design work where necessary.
Significant public statements, claims about impact, fundraising communications, and changes to official branding must follow OEP's designated approval procedures.
Why it matters
An organization's public identity should reflect the quality and seriousness of its underlying work. This role is responsible for ensuring that OEP communicates with the same care it applies to education.
