Director of Partnerships & Outreach

Institutional relationships, school & NGO outreach & adoption

About the role

The Director of Partnerships & Outreach is responsible for helping The Open Economics Project establish meaningful relationships with schools, libraries, nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, and community partners.

OEP's educational mission depends not only on producing valuable resources but also on connecting those resources with institutions and communities that can put them to use.

The Director will play an important role in identifying opportunities for collaboration, building institutional relationships, and coordinating initiatives that connect OEP's educational resources with learners beyond its digital platform.

This role requires professional communication, strong initiative, organized relationship management, and the ability to turn introductory conversations into practical collaborations.

The mandate

To develop a sustainable network of institutional relationships that supports the distribution, adoption, and community-level use of OEP's educational resources and programs.

Responsibilities

Institutional Relationship Development

  • Identify prospective school, library, NGO, and educational partners.
  • Research institutional needs and assess alignment with OEP's mission.
  • Prepare personalized outreach communications and introductory materials.
  • Maintain professional correspondence with prospective and existing partners.

Partnership Coordination

  • Help develop proposals for educational collaborations, resource distribution, and community programming.
  • Coordinate relevant internal teams during partnership discussions.
  • Maintain records of partner contacts, discussions, follow-ups, and commitments.
  • Support the implementation of approved partnership initiatives.

Outreach Strategy

  • Recommend geographic or institutional priorities based on educational need and organizational capacity.
  • Develop repeatable outreach procedures and communications templates.
  • Coordinate with student ambassadors to identify credible local opportunities.
  • Support institutional engagement around educational publications and programs.

Reporting and Accountability

  • Maintain an organized record of outreach activities and partnership development.
  • Distinguish initial contacts from active institutional collaborations.
  • Document completed activities and measurable outcomes.
  • Contribute verified information to OEP's quarterly impact reports.

Who we’re looking for

Strong written communication, professional judgment, reliability, and the ability to represent an organization credibly are essential.

Experience in student leadership, outreach, community organizations, partnership development, or nonprofit initiatives is desirable.

Applicants should be comfortable conducting independent research, composing formal correspondence, maintaining organized records, and following through on commitments.

First 90 Days

The Director should aim to:

  1. Review OEP's existing partnership materials and outreach priorities.
  2. Establish a structured partner-prospect database and follow-up process.
  3. Develop professional templates for institutional outreach.
  4. Identify a focused group of credible prospective partners.
  5. Advance suitable partnership discussions and document their status.

Working together

This position works closely with the Chief Development Officer and other relevant organizational leaders.

The Director may initiate approved outreach and coordinate discussions within their assigned responsibilities. They may not independently promise financial support, sign binding agreements, or represent an arrangement as formally approved without authorization.

Partnership success should be judged by relationship quality and documented outcomes—not the number of emails sent.

Why it matters

The strength of an educational initiative is partly determined by whether its resources reach institutions and communities capable of using them meaningfully. This role connects OEP's work with those opportunities.
