Student Leadership | Community Outreach

Student Ambassador

Local relationships, school outreach & community initiatives

About the role

The Student Ambassador Program provides students with an opportunity to represent The Open Economics Project's educational mission within their schools and communities.

Ambassadors serve as local points of connection between OEP and the students, educators, and institutions that may benefit from its resources.

The program emphasizes initiative, responsible leadership, and meaningful community engagement rather than simply promoting an organization's name.

Ambassadors are encouraged to identify genuine educational needs, develop practical outreach ideas, and contribute to initiatives that make economics learning more available in their communities.

This is an opportunity to build leadership skills while contributing to a broader international educational effort.

The mandate

To strengthen local awareness and use of OEP's educational resources and help create opportunities for students to engage with economics within their own communities.

Responsibilities

Local Outreach

  • Introduce OEP's educational resources to interested students and educators.
  • Identify schools, clubs, libraries, or student groups that may benefit from OEP initiatives.
  • Share approved organizational information and program announcements.

Community Initiatives

  • Propose practical educational activities suited to local needs.
  • Assist with workshops, discussions, and other approved outreach initiatives.
  • Collaborate with other ambassadors and program leaders where appropriate.

Community Feedback

  • Share observations about students' educational needs and barriers.
  • Communicate relevant feedback to OEP's central teams.
  • Document completed activities and the people or institutions reached, without collecting unnecessary personal information.

Organizational Participation

  • Attend reasonable orientation or coordination sessions.
  • Maintain professional and respectful conduct.
  • Communicate progress and seek authorization before making external commitments on OEP's behalf.

Who we’re looking for

The program is intended for motivated students with an interest in economics, education, or community leadership.

Applicants should demonstrate initiative, reliability, communication skills, and a willingness to contribute.

Previous leadership experience is welcomed but is not a prerequisite.

Students do not need to be economics experts, have extensive extracurricular experience, or represent a particular type of educational institution.

First 90 Days

New ambassadors should aim to:

  1. Complete the ambassador onboarding process.
  2. Become familiar with OEP's resources and organizational guidelines.
  3. Identify a realistic local outreach opportunity.
  4. Submit a concise activity plan for review.
  5. Complete or contribute to an approved outreach activity and document its results.

Working together

Ambassadors are expected to remain reasonably active and maintain communication with their designated program contacts.

OEP values the quality of contributions and local community benefit over superficial activity counts or social media engagement.

Ambassadors do not independently represent OEP in contractual, financial, or official institutional matters without approval.

Additional participation or parental authorization requirements may apply to minors and to particular activities.

Why it matters

OEP's educational mission cannot be carried by a website alone. Student Ambassadors help translate a global educational purpose into meaningful activity within local communities.
